Barnsley will face Premier League outfit Southampton in the second round of the Capital One Cup later this month.
The tie will be played at Oakwell in the week commencing August 26. Reds boss David Flitcroft said: "As a football person you want to compete against Premier League opposition so it's a good tie. I don't know if they'll send a full strength team but they have 40 pros capable of playing in the Premier League. It'd be good if the club could do a scheme to get kids in to see Premier League football.
"We're glad we won't have to travel far and a home tie is good for us. We saw last season what a cup run can do so we're excited to be playing Southampton."
