A brother and sister are taking on a tough running challenge in memory of their dad who was a much-loved postie.

Keith Green, from Hodroyd Close, Shafton, was well known in the village and the surrounding area, working as a postman for 15 years.

He died last year aged 63 following a battle with leukaemia. His two children, Spencer and Nicky, will be running a rather unusual trail race against a steam train for Macmillan Cancer Support tomorrow in Tywyn, Wales.

Nicky, 40 is a keen marathon runner and says it is the second time she has ran the 14-mile race.

But Spencer, 38, is new to running and has been training hard for the big day.

"The Macmillan nurses were just lovely people when we dealt with them," Nicky said.

"There are some people that aren't as lucky as us because they don't have any family and that's all they have got. The nurses are just really special people so we thought we would raise money for them."

Nicky has also ran marathons for the Anthony Nolan Trust, a UK blood cancer charity, and Cancer Research UK raising thousands of pounds in the process.

She is also wanting to raise money for Leukaemia and Lyphoma Research in the future.
