Barnsley's only signing on the final day of the summer transfer window was experienced defender Peter Ramage on a season-long loan from Premier League club Crystal Palace.
The 29-year-old scored four goals in 40 games as Palace were promoted to the top flight last season. He began his career at Newcastle United, with whom he appeared in Europe and the Premier League, and has also played for Queens Park Rangers and Birmingham City.
Ramage can play across the defence but is unlikely to be a direct replacement for left-back Scott Golbourne who left to join Wolves last week. Reds boss David Flitcroft may still opt to sign a player for the left-back or left wing-back position on loan.
Ramage will strengthen the Reds defence which has conceded 18 goals in seven matches this season.
