THE wife of a Darfield man who was viciously attacked with a screwdriver has thanked the public for the response to an appeal in the Chronicle.

Janet Keightley said they had been overwhelmed by the support for her husband Jerry, 64, who was stabbed seven times in the face with the nine-inch long screwdriver as he returned home from a night out.

More than 30 stitches were needed after the attack at 12.30am on Sunday October 29, yards from his home on Inkerman Road. He also suffered a broken nose and cheekbone.

But since the story appeared last week, information has been flooding in to the police.
