A Barnsley man visiting friends in New York got a shock after seeing they had a wall plaque paying homage to a town centre pub.
Barrie Bedford, 72, of Hunningley Lane, had been visiting friends in Bronxville when they showed him the plaque advertising Hy Carter and Sons, wine, spirits and merchandise, 7 Market Hill, Barnsley.
"I couldn't believe it, I got a bit of a shock.
"They know I live in Barnsley, but they've never been and bought it somewhere in New York," said Barrie.
He has known Mathew and Leanne Pantliano for a number of years because his aunt lived next door to some of their relatives and they kept in touch.
Mathew and Leanne bought the plaque because they have a son named Carter.
He added: "They live in the middle of nowhere and just said they has something to show me. When I saw it said Barnsley I thought there must have been a Barnsley in the USA. But I don't think there is."
He was photographed with the plaque and plans to show it to the management at the pub, which is now called Old Number 7.
