MUM Lisa Jenkinson has described the terror of watching her daughter clawing at her neck as she almost choked to death on a lollipop.

Athersley student Lisa, 33, who is studying nursing, saved four-year-old Megan’s life using the Heimlich manoeuvre, which she had previously only read about in text books.

The incident happened only the day before six-year-old Shannon Louise Hennessey from Castleford, West Yorkshire died after choking on her school dinner.

Megan, of Bramcote Avenue, was watching TV at home and eating a lollipop when she accidentally sucked the sweet off the stick and it lodged in her throat.

Lisa and Megan’s dad Carl Shirt were terrified as the little girl’s lips turned blue and she clawed at her neck, struggling to breathe.

Carl, 38, held her upside down and slapped her on the back, but the sweet would not come out.
