Reuben Noble-Lazarus is available for loan due to Barnsley's switch from a wing-back system to a 4-4-2.
The 20-year-old attacker has played five times this season at left-back or left wing-back but has been out of the side in recent weeks and is now one of several youngsters who could leave the club on a temporary basis soon.
Manager David Flitcroft said: "I earmarked Reuben as a potential wing-back but, with us going to a back four, Reuben has found himself out of a picture a little bit. It would be a fantastic experience for Reuben to go to a League One or League Two club but we have to find the right one."
Meanwhile, Jim McNulty's loan at Tranmere Rovers is expected to be extended by at least another month. The defender has played five games for the League One club and won a penalty at MK Dons on Saturday. The deal ends next week but Flitcroft said: "Tranmere want to extend. We will be looking to do that. The first month is always a bit precarious but in the second month we have a 24-hour recall.
"I enjoy knowing that players are in a rhythm and we can have them back with one phone call."
