Scott Wiseman's late own goal brought Barnsley's four-match unbeaten run to an end with a 1-0 loss at Millwall on Saturday.
Wiseman headed into his own net on 76 minutes from Liam Feeney's cross. It was a harsh scoreline for the Reds who could have won the match with several chances and defended well for the most part. But the loss keeps Barnsley second bottom with two wins from their 16 games this season and just one point from eight away games.
They were without Chris O'Grady who has an injury while David Fox is ill. Those two were replaced by Jacob Mellis and Kelvin Etuhu who formed part of a five man midfield behind Marcus Pedersen who was on his own up front.
Millwall started the match well and Jack Butland made a good save from Martyn Woolford. But it was the Reds who should have taken the lead. Pedersen inexplicably shot straight at the 'keeper from 30 yards when he could have played Mellis clean through. Mellis did have a one-on-one chance soon after thanks to fine passing from Pedersen and Paddy McCourt but home stopper David Forde saved with his legs.
Mellis also had a header deflected just wide after the break while Wiseman was almost played clean through by a mistake from Lions left-back Scott Malone.
Millwall's best chance fell to substitute Steve Morison who looked sure to finish a fine team move with a tap-in but Butland made a tremendous save. The England goalkeeper was beaten a minute later by his own man Wiseman.
Jason Scotland had a shot from the edge of the area that went just wide and the Reds were beaten.
