There must have been a sense of deja vu for Marcus Tudgay yesterday when he signed for Barnsley on loan from Nottingham Forest until January 3.

The striker arrived almost exactly a year ago when manager Keith Hill was under pressure and the Reds were struggling to take chances in a relegation scrap. He finds himself in a very similar situation this time with the side second bottom and not converting chances.

Tudgay, who netted three times in nine Reds games last time before breaking his collarbone in Hill's last match, said: "If Flicker is under pressure then he's not showing it. Barnsley are not far away from getting it right. They just need a bit of composure in front of goal and hopefully I can bring that.

"If I can get goals and other players chip in as well and we get two or three places up the league in the month that I'm here then that's a start. It feels great to be back and I hope to carry on where I left off.

"The boys are great. The fans were great with me and the new coaches I have met today seem great too. I have kept an eye out for Barnsley's results.

"We played good football last time but struggled to score.  I know Barnsley play good football and the ball is going to come into the box. Sometimes you are starved of crosses as a striker but I know I won't be here. I know Jim O'Brien will get that ball into the box with a quality cross."

Tudgay, 30, has not started a game since he left Oakwell and has managed just 64 minutes in two substitute's appearances for Forest, where he is contracted until the end of the season.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man claims he had interest from other Championship clubs but the only concrete offers he received were from League Two outfits before Flitcroft rang him on Wednesday afternoon. "I had no hesitation. I told him straight away I'd be there at nine in the morning. It's a chance for me to put myself in the shop window because I'm not getting in at Forest. If the opportunity is there to stay at Barnsley for longer than a month then I will definitely look at it but that's in the future."
