TWO boys who were encouraged to cycle to school as part of a healthy lifestyle had their bikes stolen when the shed was left unlocked.
Nicholas Brown and Matthew Parks, both aged ten, have now been forced to ride to Birdwell Primary on old bikes which are too small for them.
The two bicycles, worth around £200 each, were taken on Tuesday October 31 from the bike shed on the Hay Green Lane side of the school.
Nicholas’ mum Ann is furious at the lack of security at the school, and says the shed, installed at the school in May, is too close to the road.
She said: “After all this effort to persuade kids to be healthier and walk and cycle to school, they end up getting their bikes taken.
“I think they built the new shed in the wrong place. It used to be near the staff room and out of sight, but now it is facing right out into Hay Green Lane where it is more accessible.
“When I saw it, I thought, what a stupid place to put it. It is exactly in front of the little gate, where everybody can see it.”
She added she was having to take Nicholas to school and back while they waited for the insurance money to come through.
“Obviously, we are very angry at what has happened. Nicholas is stuck messing about on an old bike that is too small. If we do get a new bike, then he is not going to school on it.
