CHARLES Creasey used a touch of magic to help him win a national speaking competition.
Charles, 14, of Oakfield Walk, Pogmoor, gave a speech entitled ‘Imagination is more important than knowledge’ at the national junior championships in Boston, Lincolnshire.
The Kingstone School pupil — and a part-time magician — made a coin disappear during the address, which won him top spot in the 13 to 15 year-old category.
He became involved with public speaking after entering a competition at school and triumphed in the regional finals before moving on to Boston.
Charles said: “It proves people from Barnsley are not all ‘thee’ and ‘thar’.
“We were given a series of quotes and I picked the one that meant the most to me. I thought it would be eye catching to use a few magic tricks and the judges obviously thought so too.”
