AN XXX-mas tree which caused a stir around Penistone has been given the snip.
Joker Alan Parkin even decorated his jolly green giant with flashing red and white lights.
But he got the willies after being told he could face prosecution if it caused offence — and he has clipped the top off.
The bizarre tree was pictured in the Chronicle last week sparking national media interest in the conifer at his home at Middlecliffe Drive, Crow Edge.
He told the Chronicle he made the changes after being contacted by police and said he did not want it to cause offence. “It's all been blown out of proportion,” he said.
Penistone bobby Andy Thompson said they had received no complaints but if somebody found it alarming or distressing it would have been an offence.
But neighbours said they found it amusing.
Ambulance driver Michael Beevers, 23, said: “It's not really bothered me, I just thought it was funny. When I saw it I cracked out laughing but I did wonder what part of the anatomy would be next.”
Lee Marley, 24, said: “Down this street we have laughed about it, it's all a bit of fun.”
