LIVING on Pye Avenue, Mapplewell, has been described as a ‘nightmare’ by residents who claim young people are causing trouble on the street.

Immediate action is needed to be taken to prevent their homes and the street suffering at the hands of the adolescents, say the residents.

One man, who did not wish to be identified, said that about £100 was stolen from his house while he was in the garden. He claimed that several of his neighbours have also had property taken from their homes.

Cashcare Stores, the street's newsagents and general store, has been targeted numerous time. The premises have been repeatedly covered in graffiti and on one occasion a full day's newspapers and magazines worth £325 were stolen and later set alight at the end of the street. The shop window has also been smashed twice.

Many residents are convinced that the area has deteriorated since a single placement children’s home was opened on Pye Avenue a couple of years ago.
