A THIRD set of speed ramps installed on a Jump street in less than six months has caused outrage among community leaders.
Council workers have dug up speed bumps on Church Street and replaced them with new speed tables. The change comes only five months after the bumps replaced a first set of ramps and bollards which were considered too dangerous. Drivers and police had complained the bollards, positioned just over the brow of a hill, put lives at risk.
It means the 50 metre stretch of road which has no history of accidents, other than when a van crash into one of the bollards, has had xxx worth of work spent on speed calming since May 2005.
Ian Warhurst, chair of Hemingfield Crime and Safety Group which covers Jump, blasted the council. He said: “It’s ridiculous, the road doesn’t even need speed bumps but if the council are going to put them in you'd have thought they would get it right in two attempts. I am appalled at the waste of money."
