BARNSLEY veterans and families are set to gather in Woodhall Spa next month alongside other military associations to commemorate the region's involvement in a significant second World War battle.

As part of the 70th anniversary of the Second World War's Battle of Arnhem in the Netherlands, Lincolnshire's Woodhall Spa Cottage Museum has organised a day of events on September 6 to honour the brave servicemen who took part.

Woodhall Spa was the training base for the air landing brigade that took part in the battle, code named Operation Market Garden, which was famously turned into the hit movie A Bridge too Far.

There will be a veteran's parade that will include members of the Airborne Comrades Association Barnsley, along with the RAF Waddington pipe band and a number of dignitaries, including the Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire and the Dutch military, air and deputy defence attache.
