A NEW community centre may be built following the demolition of Brierley Hall.
The council chambers, caretaker's house, the offices and the council depot will all be knocked down.
Coun Alex Vodden believes the Brierley Hall site will be sold for residential development - turning the village into one large housing estate - but there should be a condition that some of the land be provided for the community centre.
He believes this is the last opportunity for the village to get such as facility.
He has been in negotiations with the planning and estates departments at Barnsley Council and has asked them to look at the possibility of a new building.
Another possible location is the old bowling green near Brierley School. It is green belt land and can’t be used for housing.
