A GRIMETHORPE haulage firm has been criticised at an inquiry after drivers breached tachograph regulations.

Francis Transport Services Ltd appeared before the traffic commissioners after several drivers were found to have been driving for longer than the legal requirements.

VOSA, the Vehicle and Operators’ Services Agency, called the inquiry after discovering the offences, which took place between September 1 2005 and October 14, 2005.

Six drivers admitted breaching the government-set rules on two or three occasions. They no longer work for the High Street based firm.

One driver breached regulations on six occasions and another, in his 70s, was confused about them and had not received any training.

The tribunal, held at Leeds last Thursday, was told how the company misunderstood the regulations which state that drivers can only be on the road four-and-a- half hours before being legally required to take a break.
