TROUBLE has flared again in the centre of Darfield after youths fired ball bearings at shop windows.
A resident who heard "a big bang" on Friday night saw two youths aged between 12 and 14 in the street and then discovered ball bearings had been fired through a shop window. Later more windows were damaged.
On Monday lunchtime there was trouble again when a group of 20 youngsters gathered outside a shop, two of whom verbally abused the owner. Litter was also left behind at the premises.
Coun David Wainwright said he believed the latter case was in retaliation to the decision by the Safer Neighbourhood Team to go into the school to try to improve behaviour.
But he did not want children to be stopped going out of school at lunchtime because there were four food outlets whose trade would be hit by a ban.
