THE family grave of a Wombwell benefactor whose charity fund has helped thousands of local people has been refurbished.
The Captain Allott Fund committee has also put a plaque on the new railings at Wombwell cemetery to commemorate his life.
Captain Allott bequeathed his house, The Sycamores, at Hemingfield, to the people of Wombwell, Jump and Hemingfield. It was sold in 1992 and income from the invested proceeds is distributed by a management committee to local groups and organisations on an annual basis. Local schools do not have to apply.
