A FIRST World War death penny has been salvaged from a scrap yard after someone 'weighed it in'.

The bronze memorial 5ins plaques were given to the next of kin of all British and Empire service personnel killed as a result of the war.

This one is inscribed with the name of Arthur Russell, who died aged 20 and is named on the Monk Bretton war memorial, and it is being looked after by Fay Polson, a member of the Barnsley War Memorial's project.
