COUNCIL tax payers in Brierley and Grimethorpe might end up footing the bill for the new community centre planned for Brierley.
Brierley Town Councillors revealed at a meeting on Wednesday night that different sources of funding were being looked at but they couldn’t rule out the burden of cost falling on the parish precept.
The concept of the community centre earmarked for the old bowling green is still in the early stages but has caused enough concern for members of the public to attend a town council meeting for the first time.
Janet Barrick said: “If it does go ahead what will be the cost implications for the local residents? I can see it would benefit the community but I would assume that residents would pick the cost up.”
Coun Alex Vodden admitted that was a possibility as was using earnings from the Grimethorpe Community Centre, which is being built.
