AN ELDERLY Billingley widow has been told she must rip out gates put up to stop her dog running away.

Gladys Haigh, 84, of Well Lane Court, put the small wrought iron gates up nine years ago to keep Shitsu Bobby safe from the road.

Her son, Keith Haigh, said they asked permission at the time and was told it would not be a problem by a grounds maintenance manager.

But Yorkshire Metropolitan Housing Association say the gates must be taken down because they restrict access to the property.

If they are not taken down by February 15, Mr Haigh says the association is going to remove them and she will be charged.
