Children are being put at risk because a double decker school bus has been replaced by a single decker, claims a parent.
Steve Jones says his two children attend St Michael’s school and sometimes have to walk to and from school - almost two miles per trip.
He says 70 to 80 kids used to get on a double decker but the single decker takes about 50. The rest have to make other arrangements.
The council pay for the bus and contract the service out to the South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (SYPTE) but Steve claims it’s hiding behind its statutory obligation and not providing for all kids travelling from Royston to the Athersley school.
Steve, of Church Hill, Royston,: “Hannah is in her final year and has been going on the bus every day for five years. I got to know last week that up until recently the bus has always been a double decker and it has been reduced to a coach.
