A REFERENDUM is to be held in Brierley and Grimethorpe which could lead to the abolition of the town council.
Controversy has dogged Brierley Town Council for the past ten years and there have been several petitions organised by residents calling for it to be dissolved.
The pressure increased after its former clerk swindled £700,000 from the town council.
Janet Cooper was jailed for eight years for the fraud in 2013.
Later this year residents will vote on whether or not to scrap the council.
