A NEW protest group has been set up in opposition to swaithes of greenbelt being earmarked for thousands of houses.
Neighbours Lucy Robson, her husband Chris Robson, and Jo Collins live off Hoyland Road, Hoyland Common, and are fighting an allocation for 600 houses on a site bordering Tinker Lane, Hoyland Road and Upper Hoyland Road.
The scheme is on Barnsley Council's Local Plan which covers development up to 2033.
The neighbours set up the group 'Save Hoyland Common Green Belt' and have been out leafleting to gather support. Their Facebook page has 360 likes and they collected 200 signatures last weekend.
The group says the housing scheme will ruin the 'village' character of Hoyland Common and swamp roads with traffic. They also say the site is riddled with old mine workings.
