A YOUNG girl from Barnsley who woke to find she was paralysed from the neck down has been diagnosed with a highly rare condition.

Mia Park, 12, has suspected hypokalemic periodic paralysis, a potentially fatal condition caused by dangerously low levels of potassium.

Symptoms include extreme muscle weakness and loss of muscle movement with bouts of paralysis that can last up to 19 hours.

The condition came to light in January when Mia woke up feeling terrified because she was unable to move.
