A WATH drama teacher has taken a scandal of the 1950s and turned it into a musical which will be premiered next month. Echoes relates the story of children who were taken from orphanages and sent to outposts of the British Empire. Many were not orphans and lost contact with parents and families for many years, some never seeing them again. Ian McGrath, head of drama, has written the play and lyrics, Ian Faraday has composed the music and it has been arranged by Neil Dickinson. It follows the story of a young girl, Maureen, from the age of eight up to the 1960s when she is reunited with her mother. The musical has a serious theme but is full of humour and songs. Students from Years 8 to 13 at Wath Comprehensive have been working on the school’s annual drama production since September. It will be performed in the main hall on March 7, 8 and 9 at 7pm.
