RESIDENTS with dementia at a Mapplewell care home were locked in their rooms without their consent 'for their own safety', inspectors found.
They visited Deangate Care Home in Mapplewell in the early hours to find six people on the Poppy Lodge dementia unit locked in their rooms.
They were told one person chose to lock their doors and the others were locked by staff for the own safety.
But the residents would not know how to use a call bell to alert staff, meaning they were locked in their rooms, on a locked unit, without any nearby staff for most of the time.
