THE DRIVING force behind the Royal British Legion at Hoyland has been awarded a gold badge for his service.
Ken Burkinshaw, of Cherry Tree Street, has been involved in the legion for more than 40 years and is both president and secretary of the branch.
He organises the annual remembrance parade and helps with the poppy appeal, which this year has raised more than £6,000, its biggest total.
The award was presented by the legion’s county representative Kevin Mitchell.
Ken said:“It’s good to see that people take notice of what you’re doing, and hopefully this will lead more people to join us, because a lot of people don’t know we’re here.”
