CORONATION Street’s Kirk Sutherland may not be the sharpest tool in the box, but he appeared at the Metrodome this week to help youngsters celebrate using their wits.

Kirk, real name Andy Whyment, made a guest appearance at an exclusive party for 500 13 to 19-year olds on Wednesday.

The actor, who appeared in ITV’s Soapstar Superstar, was the highlight of an evening of entertainment which also included a disco with an MC and break dancers.

He handed out trophies and certificates to youngsters to recognise their work in applying for grants to pay for activities for children.

Andy also signed autographs for fans of slow-witted Kirk.

The event was organised by Barnsley Youth Service and the Young People’s Panel, who call themselves the “gimme some dosh dosh dosh group”.
