A TREE surgeon died tragically while working to remove branches in a Barnsley churchyard.
Martin Hanks, 34, died from head injuries sustained as he worked in the churchyard at the former All Hallows Church in High Hoyland on Tuesday morning.
Martin had been working with two colleagues when the tragedy happened. They tried to revive him but relatives have been told his death was instantaneous.
Mrs Hanks said: "Martin was doing the job he absolutely loved. I think it was just a tragic accident from what we have been told by police."
Martin had spent time in Australia after A Levels before returning to become a tree surgeon and set up his own business, Yorkshire Tree Care, several years ago.
