A VOLUNTEER from Barnsley has flown out to offer vital help and assistance to those who have been left devastated in earthquake-hit Nepal.
John McGill, a director of Response Medics UK, based on Albion Road, Carlton, is one of a team of eight volunteers from both the medical company and Disaster Medics UK to fly out.
He said: "These people are having a rough time and we need to help them."
The team includes paramedics and technicians who are expected to spend ten days based in the capital of Kathmandu.
The volunteers will sleep in tents because of the risk of aftershocks following the 7.8 magnitude 'quake on Saturday. Also offering assistance is Barnsley nurse Carole Dean, 50, who was already in Nepal when the quake hit and is offering health care to locals in Surkhet with a team from Youth with a Mission.
