A NEW community enterprise shop has opened in Silkstone with the objective of providing opportunities for young people with autism.
It is hoped residents in the area will support Hoyland House by buying the plants they rear and other items, including pottery, handmade soaps and wrapping paper.
They will stay in a residential unit alongside the shop, which is off the A628 road between Silkstone and Hoylandswaine, to learn the life-skills which will assist in their adult lives.
The premises are owned and operated by the National Autistic Society but is being operated as a community enterprise business by Anthony Walker, using funding from the NAS, though it is hoped it will become self-financing over time.
Goods are marketed under the 'Autisan' label and the shop is open from 11am to 3pm.
