BARNSLEY lad Steven Appleyard is doing a sponsored swim to raise money for a charity close to his heart.
Steven, 27, was born with cerebral palsy and can't walk but he has been training hard with the aim of swimming one mile.
He hopes to raise as much as possible for PACE, a charity which helps transform the lives of children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy.
Steven, of Queen's Way, Worsbrough, said: "I didn't think I'd ever be able to swim. I feel confident in the water, it's easy to move. I feel confident enough to take off my arm bands - I'd rather not have them."
Steven will do the swimathon at the Metrodome on Wednesday. So far he has raised £190, but still has sponsorship money to collect.
