BARNSLEY Hospital has reduced the amount it has spent on agency staff by £220,000 per year.
Heather McNair, director of nursing and quality, put it down to keeping sickness down and recruiting quickly.
She said the hospital also uses a bank of existing employees rather than using staff supplied through an agency.
She said: "We're a smaller hospital which makes things easier, and when organisations are financially challenged, it makes you look at the detail and put the spotlight on it."
