A BARNSLEY councillor has defended the restrictions on what can be taken to dump it sites as the borough tackles a fly-tipping epidemic.
Flytipping offences in Barnsley have reached record levels and the council has been forced to divert funds from other services to clear up the mess.
Coun Roy Miller said the rules were fair and absolutely necessary to make sure Barnsley tax payers were not 'subsidising' private business, or major home renovation.
"These are household waste recycling centres and that's what they are for - household waste," he said. "If you're a private householder and you are doing major renovation, knocking walls down, you need to hire a skip. We can't expect the council tax payers of Barnsley to foot the bill for that."
