Barnsley have dipped into the loan market to boost their goalkeeper options ahead of the start of the new season.
Young Birmingham stopper Nick Townsend, 20, has signed on a youth loan from the Championship side until November 1.
Townsend is well known to the Barnsley goalkeeper coach John Vaughan who worked with him while he was a coach at St Andrew's.
Townsend will challenge Adam Davies for the number one jersey and becomes the fifth loan recruit of the summer.
Barnsley are now at their full capacity for loans that can be included in a match day squad.
