Barnsley had a busy transfer deadline day as they loaned in Swindon's Michael Smith, converted Nick Townsend into a permanent signing and recruited Harry White from non-league Gloucester City.
Striker Smith, 23, netted 18 goals to help Swindon to the play-off final last season and joins the Reds until January 4.
Goalkeeper Townsend, 20, had been on loan from Birmingham City since August and has signed a three-year deal.
The Reds still have six loan players, one more than allowed in matchday squads.
Striker White, 20, has signed on a two-year contract for an undisclosed fee after impressing in the Conference North with Gloucester. He is a signing for the under 21s squad initially.
The transfer deadline passed at 6pm on September 1.
