VILLAGERS in Blacker Hill are being asked to get behind a last-ditch effort to save its community centre from closure.

Blacker Hill Lifelong Learning Centre is now the last place in the village where people can get together for meetings, courses and social events following the closure of centres like the local pub, the Royal Albert. It also now houses the village post office.

Now the community group Forge Community Partnership is pledging £20,000 of its own money to keep the centre open for a trial year and turn it into a 'hub' for the village - but the success of the venture hangs on support from the community.
