A GROUP which helped keep men over 35 fit and healthy has been saved after local area councils agreed to invest.
The Fit Reds has delivered programmes across the borough for the last three years in partnership with Barnsley FC Community Sports and Education Trust.
The Chronicle revealed in July the popular project was facing closure because of a lack of funding. But it has been given a stay of execution after the North East and Dearne area councils agreed to fund programmes in their areas.
Lee Thompson, project co-ordinator, said the North East area council had agreed to spend £19,000 on five programmes in their area, while Dearne area council commissioned one programme at £4,000.
The cash will ensure the group's survival until March 2017.
