A DARFIELD headteacher remains in his post amid concerns at how he spent public money.

David Smith was found to have wrongly received consultancy fees and approved his own overtime payments.

He is currently paying back an amount of £2,400 wrongly received. He also failed to declare his conflict of interest when employing his wife and son at Upperwood Primary School.

The various examples of unusual spending at the school were highlighted in an internal special report by Barnsley council in October 2004.

It details a trip by four teachers from the school to Australia costing the school £7,318.
