THE wage bill for sorting out post for the council’s Westgate headquarters will be more than £400,000 a year.
Bosses are creating a 22-strong team to handle incoming and outgoing mail which involves sorting and scanning letters so they can be forwarded to the right member of staff via e-mail.
A corporate mail operations manager post has been advertised with a salary of between £23,175 and £24,708.
Three section supervisors and 18 mail room officers will work under the successful applicant.
Council head of facilities management Steve Jackson says the authority believes dealing with mail electronically is cost effective in the long term.
