VANDALS have struck at an Elsecar church for the second time in three weeks.

Churchgoers were horrified to discover that the Holy Trinity had been broken into on Sunday evening. Now there are fears that this will keep on happening unless action is taken.

One congregation member, who asked to remain anonymous, was worried that the intruders would return.

She said: “Now they've found out that they can get in once they might do it again and cause more damage next time.

“They could have left the candles burning or anything. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that they don’t come back tonight and fire it.”

Nothing appeared to have been taken but three empty fire extinguishers were found in a nearby field.

Fresh graffiti was also discovered over the church grounds with one so-called tag scrawled in various places including the church door and noticeboard.
