ARRESTS of children in Barnsley have taken a dramatic tumble in the last four years, figures obtained by the Chronicle show.

The number of arrested children aged 17 or under has fallen every year in the borough since 2010, according to data released by South Yorkshire Police.

Figures show there were 1,269 children arrested in 2010. This fell to 926 in 2011 and to 672 in 2012. That number plunged even further in 2013 to 420 and again to 331 last year.

That is equivalent to a 74 per cent drop from 2010 to 2014.
