THE COMMUNITY rallied together to make do and mend after would-be thieves chopped down the Christmas tree in Owd Martha’s Yard.
Residents believe the incident happened on Sunday evening, because the tree was standing during the day, but was in two pieces by Monday morning with the Christmas lights also cut in half.
Charlotte Oughton, treasurer for the Owd Martha’s Yard community garden committee, said: “You can tell it’s been cut by a saw because it’s a clean cut across the middle. That’s not wind damage. On top of that, the lights have been cut through.”
