TWO Barnsley men have come up with a futuristic solution to the smoking ban coming this summer.

Craig Savage and Nigel Robinson, from Monk Bretton, have invented ‘Cigloo’ - a transparent dome which is half open and exposed to the open air.

But a wind vain on top senses changes in wind direction, and slowly rotates the shelter, pointing it in the correct direction to protect those smoking beneath it.

Mr Robinson said: “In Britain rain never comes straight down vertically - it is always driven by wind.

“There is a lot of concern about what will happen when people have to go outside to smoke, particularly for older people exposed to the cold. With Cigloo they will always be well.”

Mr Robinson came up with the idea following the change in the law which takes effect this July. All shelters provided for smokers need to be 50 per cent open to comply with the law, and Cigloo’s creators say many shelters and conservatories built for smokers will now be obsolete.
