Barnsley head coach Lee Johnson says it is unfortunate that loan forward Ivan Toney has been recalled by Premier League club Newcastle United.
Toney, 19, is needed back at St James' Park with Steve McLaren's side nursing injuries to forwards. He was recalled by them on Wednesday morning.
Johnson said: "It's unfortunate but it is part of the rules and regulations. They can recall him at any point.
"I think they have had a couple of injuries. I had a call Tuesday morning from their assistant explaining why they have had to bring him back.
"He is their player and we just have to get on with it.
"It's an opportunity for someone else to come in."
Johnson says Toney has been effective in his eight appearances for the club.
"I think he gave us a different option," added Johnson.
"He's quite unorthodox in his play. I've been pleased with him.
"He's certainly a lad I'd have no qualms about bringing back."
Kevin Long's loan from Burnley has been extended for another month while Johnson says he would be keen to keep Aidy White, on loan from Rotherham, for a longer spell.
