CHRISTMAS came early for a dementia support group in Barnsley that was facing crisis point with just days to go until funding ran out for one of its vital services.

There are 200 families in Barnsley who receive valuable help from Barnsley Independent Alzheimer's and Dementia Support group's carer support service.

Its fortunes were hanging by a thread as funding - which covers the salaries for two carer support workers - comes to an end today.

Now a substantial donation from the charity Wakefield and District Health and Community Support has thrown BIADS a financial lifeline until August next year.
