A WOMBWELL singer has scooped the £250 first prize in a Barnsley talent competition.
Alexandra Chapel, 15, of Lundhill Road, sang two songs at the final of Academy Idol at the Academy Theatre, Birdwell.
She impressed the panel of eight judges - one of whom was Janice Williams, the widow of comedian Charlie Williams - when she sang ‘Colours of the Wind’ and ‘Broken Wing.’
Alexandra, a pupil of Wombwell High School, has been singing for six years and first sang on stage at Montgomery Hall, Wath.
Geoff Whitfield, theatre manager, said: “Alex was the best on the night, and has been knocking on the door for a few years. She has entered before and been there or there abouts.
“She did very well. About 60 people auditioned for the competition.”
