THERE are some 240 looked-after children and young people in council care, with many waiting for a secure and nurturing foster home.
The levels of children in Barnsley Council’s care awaiting foster homes was revealed by the Foster Care Associates agency as part of its recruitment campaign urging Barnsley folk to consider becoming a foster carer.
The ‘what are you waiting for drive?’ is inspired from a moment in 1994 when the privately-owned agency’s cofounder, Jan Rees, experienced a ‘light-bulb moment’ after reading an article on fostering, which led to her life-changing decision to care for young people in need.
